Industrial Entrance Mats and Runners Guide

Industrial Entrance Mats and Runners Guide

Last time here, we talked about the “Standard Guide For Commercial Entrance Matting in Reducing Slips, Trips and Falls,” referred to as ANSI/NFSI B101.6-2012, from the National Floor Safety Institute.

We gave you some major guidelines for selecting mats. But in this article, we’re going to be more specific and show you which mats we’re talking about.

You need entrance mats.

There is a big selection of entrance mats available. These are mats that should be on the floor just inside and/or just outside of entrances and exits.

The purpose of the mats is to remove dirt, water, and debris from the shoes of employees and visitors right when they walk in. Some like the Berber Supreme Brush Mat can go easily indoors or outdoors. Waterhog Mats are perfect for areas that receive a lot of rain or snow because they are designed to collect water.

It’s your responsibility to put appropriate mats in appropriate places.

If you need scraper mats and grills, we carry all of the industry standards. These are the mats that are situated outside in high-traffic areas, to remove as much dirt and water before coming inside the building.

However, even if you have scraper mats, you still need carpet mats inside to finish the job that the scraper mat started. Don’t worry—most of our mats come in a wide selection of sizes and colors and can even be made for you in custom sizes.

Mats need to be in good repair.

It’s important that your mats are in good shape. Anything with that’s frayed or in poor repair may be adding to your slip, trip, and fall risk.

You also need enough mats, so that wet and dirty ones can be changed out to clean and dry ones while the dirty ones get washed.

It’s the business owner’s responsibility to identify areas prone to slip, trip, and fall accidents and put mats down accordingly.

If you have gyms or fitness areas, you need gym mats for that. If you have locker rooms with showers, there are mats for those areas, to minimize the risk to users of your facility.

It’s your responsibility to figure out where you need mats, where you have frequent accidents and put down appropriate mats. But we can help with you with that. Just contact us.

You need adequate matting.

Mats need to be large enough for the area in question and the appropriate shape. Mats may not overlap, and it’s important for them to grip the floor and be unmoving.
