The old expression, “happy wife, happy life” could easily apply to the office, as in “happy employees, happy boss” even if it doesn’t rhyme. Why? Because happy employees are more productive, and more productive employees spell greater profits.
There are some easy ways to make your employees happier. Improving employee comfort will improve office efficiency. Here are some tips to make your employees happier and your business more profitable this year.
Allow Employees to Stand and Work
There have been a number of studies showing that spending much of your day sitting isn’t good for you, no matter what you do in your time off. It doesn’t have to be expensive or complicated to allow your employees to stand. There are all kinds of new gizmos that will put an employee’s computer at different heights.
The main point here is that you want to make working height-adjustable and individualized for the worker, if at all possible. Employees are happier and healthier if they can vary their work position.
Give Employees Anti-Fatigue Mats
If employees have to spend long periods standing, then at least give them anti-fatigue mats. We have tons to choose from, and they make a significant difference in employee comfort. Standing for long periods can be hard on the back and your joints and can even create repetitive stress injuries.
Make Sure You Have Desk Chair Mats
If you’ve ever tried to work behind a desk that doesn’t have a mat, you’ll understand why these mats are important. A desk chair mat allows an employee to move around quietly and easily without any friction, and the mat also protects the floor. These are an absolute must for the office.
Perks Do Matter
Okay, so maybe you can’t afford to send your employees on paid cruises in the South Pacific or give them access to an in-office gym and swimming pool. How about a logo mat with an employee’s name on it? We can print almost anything on a logo mat.
At least consider some inexpensive team-building fun like some companies do during the holidays, where you put your team together in a conference room for some simple games with cheap prizes. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to let your employees know that you care about them and how they feel.
