Preparing Your Public Pool for Summer

Preparing Your Public Pool for SummerYou never get a second chance to make a first impression. So, before your pool opens for the season, there a few things that you need to do. Here’s a handy checklist for you:

Mats

Do you have mats where they’re needed? In change rooms where it’s always wet or near showers? We have a big selection of pool mats, and you don’t want anyone slipping on the floor in the locker room. Turtle tile mats, for example, come in 16 different colors and can go inside the shower. If you place mats in appropriate places and channel away water, everyone is safer, and there’s also less breeding ground for microorganisms.

Cleanliness

Make sure the pool is clean, and not just the water. The sides, the bottom, the areas around the pool, and the areas where you store all the pool toys and flotation devices all need to be gone over before opening for the season.

If the water has been at a lower level during the off-season, you may have some stains on the pool walls to contend with. Deal with it before you open.

Bathrooms and shower areas need a serious scrub down. Let the customer know that you care about the condition of your place of business as well as the health and safety of your customers.

Chemicals

Do you have everything you need, and is it stored safely? Chemicals, testing equipment, nets, vacuum equipment: check your inventory of supplies and make sure everything is on hand for the opening.

Repair and Replace

Is there anything that needs repairs? Do it now. And if it can’t be repaired then replace it. A loose railing at the entrance to a pool is a major hazard. Someone needs to get in the pool and test these things.

Are the filters working properly? Drains? Are life jackets in good repair? Check everything. Don’t wait until customers tell you about something broken. You inspire trust by fixing things before they’re noticed by the public.

Water

Getting the water at the right level and right quality is the last thing to concentrate on. Everything else should be in place before concerning yourself with the water because the quality of the water won’t matter if everything else is in a shambles.

If you want your customers to run in instead of run away, make your pool the coolest place to hang out this summer. The first day of summer is June 21, 2019. That’s not far away.
