Even if you buy great quality mats for the entrance of your commercial space, there are still things you can do to extend the lives of them. Have a look at our Entrance Mats page, and you can see that there is no limit to the style, type, or color of mats available. Here are some tips to keep your mats looking great.
Keep Them Clean
Different mats have different cleaning instructions, so be sure to follow the manufacturers guidelines. Some mats can be laundered in a washing machine; others can just be hosed off.
Dirty mats look terrible. If possible have several mats that you can change out, so that when one is dirty or soaked, you can remove it and immediately replace it with a clean and dry one.
Also, wash the mats when they are freshly soiled. Don’t store away dirty mats and wash them six months later. They will be much harder to get clean.
Let Them Dry Before Storing Them
Again, follow the manufacturers’ instructions. Some mats can be dried in a commercial dryer. Our Plush Carpet mats are an example of an entrance mat that can go in the washer and dryer. Others should be laid flat to dry. Don’t put away the clean mats until they are dry.
Rotate Them in Place
When you put your mats down, be sure to rotate them so they are not always in the same orientation. One side or edge of the mat may wear faster than the other side or edge. Help your mats to wear evenly.
Store Them Neatly
Have an assigned place for your mats when they are not in use and store them carefully. Mats that are gently and neatly stored will last longer than ones thrown in a pile where forklifts regularly drive over them.
Remember the reasons you bought entrance mats in the first place: they look good, they protect the flooring underneath, they prevent water, dirt, and debris from being tracked through the premises, and they help to prevent slips, trips, and falls, which are a major health and business hazard.
So, if you purchase beautiful mats, then do what you can to keep them in top shape and extend their lives. A dirty and worn-out mat is a poor reflection on your business. You want your mats to solve problems not create them. Mats that are carefully tended to will last a very long time.
