The National Floor Safety Institute (NFSI) has launched a new awareness campaign for the danger of slips, trips, and falls. Named Falls Aren\u2019t Funny<\/em>, the campaign calls attention to the alarmingly high number of slip and fall accidents that occur each year in the United States and around the world. The campaign does so via fallsarentfunny.org, a website dedicated to \u201cbringing visual presentation to the reality of slips, trip, and fall accidents.\u201d Visit the website, and you can view user-submitted photos and videos of unsuspecting men and women taking treacherous mis-steps.<\/p>\n

The campaign underscores the importance of a prevailing trend: Slips, trips, and falls are one of the most common yet easily preventable causes of accidental injury in both the workplace and at home.<\/p>\n

1. Every 8 seconds, someone is the victim of a slip and fall.<\/p>\n

2. Fifty-five percent of all slips, trips, and falls is directly caused by the floor.<\/p>\n

3. Twenty-four percent of slip and fall accidents occur because of improper footwear.<\/p>\n
