Durable Commercial Flooring Options

There’s no doubt that the floor in a commercial space gets more wear and tear than in a residential space. Whether you are putting in new floors or trying to make the most of what you already have, give careful consideration to the durability of your flooring.

Airports and warehouses don’t use white carpeting for their flooring. You know why? Because wall-to-wall carpeting doesn’t wear very well in a high traffic and dirty atmosphere. Furthermore, white is going to show every speck of dust or muddy footprint.

What Are Some Durable Options?

Epoxy Flooring

Epoxy flooring is basically a plastic-like coating, technically a resin, that coats a different flooring. Epoxies are extremely durable and waterproof, but there are a few caveats.

First, you can only apply epoxy to certain types of very solid and structurally-sound flooring. If your floor has a lot of play in it, then you can’t cover it with epoxy. For example, an old rickety wooden floor should not be covered in epoxy. Second, the floor has to ready to receive the epoxy. In other words, the floor has to be super clean, degreased, and roughed up. If the floor is too smooth, then the epoxy will not bond on it. Also, epoxy floorings can be very slippery when wet, which is a whole new problem. And epoxy flooring may not be chemically resistant, so it should not be used where there are frequent chemical spills.

Epoxies are most often applied to concrete floors. This is not your typical DIY job. Call in the professionals if you want a professional finish. Epoxy also stinks with a crash, and you’ll need some serious respirators when working with it before it cures.

Tile Flooring

Ceramic tile is another very durable flooring. It’s easy to clean and also fairly chemical resistant. Of course, tile is hard like a rock, so if you’re in the crystal glass business, and you drop lots of glasses, then they will be shattering left and right.

Tile is not the cheapest floor to install, but it will certainly outlast many other types of flooring.

Roll-out Sheet Flooring

Sheet flooring like our roll-out Coin Pattern flooring is very durable and chemical resistant. It’s easy and inexpensive to install and does not require adhesives.

Mats

Last, but not least, you can always use mats on your existing flooring. We have all different kinds in all the colors of the rainbow. Mats can add new life to an old dreary floor without the expense of having to replace the whole floor.

Some of our mats can even be washed in a washing machine. So, definitely consider some nice mats or runners at least in the highest traffic areas.

What you should choose for durable flooring will be dictated not just by your budget, but the size and use of the space, and whether the floor will have frequent contact with water and/or chemicals. Also, different types of flooring look and feel different and can greatly affect the style and décor of your commercial space.

The possibilities are endless. Whatever you choose, let us help you select the best commercial mats and flooring for your commercial space. Do you have other questions?
